The aim of this programme is to equip participants with the ability to oversee the general daily operations of a hospitality or tourism establishment, including administration, facilities, security and guest experience. This involves deputising in the absence of senior management, ensuring business policies and procedures are adhered to and supervising the efficiency of all processes within the hospitality or tourism establishment by proactively monitoring operations, guest and workplace safety and contributing towards business success

The programme also aims to enable the Supervisory Manager to take initiative and to ensure that customers are satisfied, that interactions with customers are positive, and that conflicts and issues are resolved as they arise

Developing Leaders for Hospitality and Tourism is a result of a collaboration between SOLAS, the Education and Training Boards (ETBs), the Irish Hotels Federation (IHF), Fáilte Ireland and the Regional Skills Fora

This course is thought in phases. Learners can complete as many phases as they wish, returning at a later date to complete any missed phases. Each phases will be run again at a later date.

Phase 1: Team Building and Performance Management

  • 12 Days In Duration (Wednesdays 9am-3pm), starting 27th April 2022

Phase 2: Achieving Strategic Goals Through Team and Customer Service

  • 12 Days In Duration (Wednesdays 9am-3pm), starting 20th July 2022

Phase 3: Compliance, Legislative and Regulatory Management in Hospitality Functions

  • 12 Days In Duration (Wednesdays 9am-3pm), starting 12th October 2022

Phase 4: Managing Professional Learning and Development in Hospitality

  • 12 Days In Duration (Wednesdays 9am-3pm), starting 4th January 2023


Phase 1: These units enable learners to gain the understanding and skills to make the best use of their teams and its members so that they can achieve the organisations objectives. I covers agreeing objectives and setting out plans. It also involves monitoring and evaluating team members work and providing feedback to them on their performance

Phase 2: These units enable learners to gain an understanding and the skills to contribute fully as part of the leadership team in their organisation. Learners will have to attend and contribute to leadership meetings, agree operational objectives in line with those of the organisation and be prepared to respond resourcefully to situations that threaten the achievement of these objectives

Phase 3: These units enable learners to gain the understanding and skills needed to understand legislative and regulatory requirements that can commonly be expected to govern hospitality management operations. Managers in hospitality will be expected to ensure that they and their teams comply with these requirements; that they are able to report on compliance and deal with external people, such as inspection staff, as and when required

Phase 4: These units enable learners to manage their own and that of their team’s professional development in order to achieve work objectives and career and personal goals

Module 417 – Manage Hospitality Functions

Phase 4 Modules:
Module 504 – Manage Own Professional Development within an organisation
Module 411 – Devise and Implement Training and Development Plans


The Diploma in Hospitality Management can lead to a successful career in a wide range of career roles including:
